چکیده

Abstract—This paper presents an adaptive thermal comfort model study in the tropical country of Malaysia. A number of researchers have been interested in applying the adaptive thermal comfort model to different climates throughout the world, but so far no study has been performed in Malaysia. For the use as a thermal comfort model, which better applies to hot and humid climates, the adaptive thermal comfort model was developed as part of this research by using the collected results from a large field study in six lecture halls with 178 students. The relationship between the operative temperature and behavioral adaptations was determined. In the developed adaptive model, the acceptable indoor neutral temperatures lay within the range of 23.9-26.0C, with outdoor temperatures ranging between 27.0-34.6C. The most comfortable temperature for students in lecture hall was 25.7C.

Thermal comfort , productivity and energy consumption in the tropical office environment : a critical overview

Thermal comfort has developed along two distinct models: deterministic and adaptive. We investigate the validity of these models against the increasingly urgent call to reduce building energy consumption. The air-conditioned office, predicated on the deterministic thermal comfort model, expends about 50% of its energy on air-conditioning. In a resource-constrained world, while acknowledging the...

Numerical Investigation of Flow Patterns and Thermal Comfort in Air-Conditioned Lecture Rooms

The present paper was concerned primarily with the analysis, simulation of the air flow and thermal patterns in a lecture room. The paper is devoted to numerically investigate the influence of location and number of ventilation and air conditioning supply and extracts openings on air flow properties in a lecture room. The work focuses on air flow patterns, thermal behaviour in lecture room wher...

Implementation of adaptive indoor comfort temperature control via embedded system for air-conditioning unit

Environmental control strategy via computerized implementation is one of the most efficient approaches to integrate new advanced knowledge in research of human thermal comfort to a mechanical air-conditioning unit. Recently, a new conceptual development in designing air-conditioning systems has indicated that the indoor comfort temperature strongly depends upon changes of the outdoor air temper...

Thermal Comfort in Offices – Natural Ventilation vs. Air Conditioning

Based on both subjective and objective data, a study was carried out in order to identify differences in the perception of thermal comfort of office workers in naturally ventilated and air-conditioned buildings. The analysis of the interviews shows that occupants of naturally ventilated office buildings are significantly more satisfied with their thermal environment than occupants in air-condit...
